A girl talking about gadgets, well why not?
When I think about it we have a lot of stuff that makes sailing safer and more efficient. This gadget maybe unnecessary in some peoples eyes but we would not be without them and you have got to agree they look cool. No.... not my sunglasses although I like them too.

Sena Communication Headsets
Picture this, you approach an anchorage where many boats are already sitting at ease. The on looking crews sit smugly in their cockpits watching your every move. With baited breath they wait for the drama to unfold, marks for execution and technique you hear them say. Even if we didnt hear them say it, we know it to be true as that's what we do and many others like us. This anchorage pastime is AKA, 'showtime' with marks out of Sevennn! The on lookers listen intently as the skipper and crew shout instructions between themselves from the position of bow and helm. They wait for the raised voices as they inevitably get higher and higher as the communication gets lost in the wind. Heavens above should the process of anchoring not go to plan first time then a smattering of sarcasm will surely follow. That alone is enough to light the touch paper and often result in a good dose of silence once anchored securely.
So in a bid to avoid these miss communication faux pas we invested in a pair of Bluetooth Sena Expand water resistant headsets. We bought them for each other as a wedding anniversary present last year. The present could not have been more apt as they are nicknamed 'marriage savers' in the sailing community and we have to admit I am much better at obeying my husband now I can hear what he is saying. 😆!!!
As for technique I am happy to report its better than many. In fact, way better than those who seem to deploy anchor and then go straight to the pub. What about backing down on the anchor? Deploying sufficient scope. Waiting a wee while to monitor the track? Arrrr don't get me started!
I was sceptical at first about wearing a coms headset, it said flash with a hefty dose of poser but once worn I have really come around to the idea. I am so in love with them that I have attached a safety lanyard to my set just in case they slide off and attempt to go in the drink! Not that they have ever left my ears in the many times I have doned them but you never know.
Easy to use rain or shine, simply perfect for so many outdoor adventures. We have worn them on bike rides, mast climbs, mooring, docking and also when Gary is in the bowels of the boat doing boat yoga (maintenance/repairs in tight spaces) whilst I am left monitoring the results of his efforts up on deck. Calm and respectful communication is key to a happy relationship and collaborative teamwork needs unity. So I share my gadget of the moment in the hope you might like it too.
