Staying in touch with friends is important because friendships provide a sense of belonging, support, and connection.
Therefore sending personal messages to friends and loved ones at this time of year matters alot to me. This year I opted to use social media as the address book rather than Royal Mail and it turned out to be a source of much fun and joy, with immediate interaction and engagement. Rather than working down the old fashioned Christmas Card list, I took to my Whats App, Email, and Messenger sharing updates and photos along the way, it even prompted a couple of hilarious phone calls. Lets just say, much laughter was had when talking about the over spilling hampers and our black bin bag exchange - a Christmas tradition between me and Jack, never planned just impecable timing!
Relaxed and smiling I reflect on why it can feel like no time has passed when you reconnect with friends after being apart for a long time. I think almost certainly it is about that strong emotional connection. The deep sense of familiarity and comfort, shared history, honesty and that good old uncrumpled trust and respect thing.
I realise there are many factors that can contribute to the evolution of friendships. It's natural for friendships to come and go over time, and it's important to be open to new friendships as well as to cherish and maintain the ones that are important to us.
I hope our friendship whether it be old or new can bring a little extra cheer and positivity to the world during a time when it may be needed most. So, don't be afraid to spread some joy and cheer what ever the time of year!
